Wagga Gold Cup: Rated prices and runner comments
They’re likely to go quick, so I’ve noted the strength runners who’ve performed well recently over further.
2. Spirit Ridge Rated $7.50
Comes back in trip from the Sydney Cup (3200m) and and get blinkers on (an afterthought?). Gets Nash on. Strength runner.
3. Inverloch Rated $9
The leader. There’s two of him, but I couldn’t back him to beat YONKERS off the last run, and he didn’t beat much in the run prior.
4. Paths Of Glory Rated $7.50
Is fit and ready and the sectionals from last start are good, albeit without subsequent form. Keeps Rachel King on. Strength runner.
5. The Lord Mayor Rated $15
The tempo was against him last start behind stablemate Yonkers. Hasn’t won for over a year.
6. Yonkers Rated $3.25
Was suited but bolted in last start with blinkers back on. Waller has won two of the last three Wagga Cups. Strength runner.
7. Knights Order Rated $21
Is first-up and has had just one trial, which is the query. Put in a big effort after chasing a fast pace in the Pakenham Cup prior to spell. Gets apprentice on (no claim).
8. Mr Marathon Man Rated $9
Ignore last start over an unsuitable trip. He’s a chance in this if he reproduces the form from the Canberra Cup win.
9. He Runs Away Rated $26
Not sure if ready for this second-up.
11. Maid Of Ore Rated $51
The Gunnedah Cup form isn’t strong enough against these metro performers.
13. Huntly Castle Rated $51
Three out of three wins at Wagga but the Albury Cup found him out. He’s not up to these metro-performed horses.
14. The Doctors Son Rated $51
Placed at massive odds alongside THE LORD MAYOR in Albury Cup then beaten a furlong LS
15. Roland Garros
Not up to this grade and pressure on the pace.
16. Upper House
Not up to this grade.
Wagga Gold Cup: Verdict
Yonkers is easy to find after the big margin win last start, but this is a different race shape. Spirit Ridge gets Nash, who is unlikely to be silly enough to chase a hot speed. If i was forced to tip then I like Paths Of Glory.
There is no great value at this stage.. but if I had to nominate my top 3…
4 Paths Of Glory
2 Spirit Ridge
