Professional punter and Champion Bets analyst Trevor Lawson assesses the field for the big Group 1 feature on Saturday, the Caulfield Cup.
Speed map is a bit speculative considering the overseas runners. I expect Homesman to lead and Kings Will Dream, Vengeur Masque and Ace High should get good runs. Youngstar can settle midfield, with The Cliffsofmoher and possibly Best Solution further back. I’m expecting a genuinely run race. The rail goes out to 6m and the track should play quite well.
There does seem to be some good value around for this year’s race.
The favourite Kings Will Dream represents good value at $5.50. Best rating figure was from winning the Mornington Cup in the autumn to qualify for this. Hit the line terrific in his first two starts this prep, then solid when out to the mile.
At first I thought he was a bit plain last start but that was up against Winx and possibly was one run where the trainer left a little in the tank to have him ready to peak for this. So I was happy to rate him to what he did in the Mornington Cup where he was 5th up like he is here.
Youngstar is around about my price at this stage.
Looks like a solid betting race and I’m happy to get involved.
