Weekend racing reviews – Saturday 25th August

Moonee Valley review compiled by Rick Williams Race 1. 1200M Mitchelton Wines Plate COMMANDING JEWEL     DAMIEN OLIVER     1st $1.85F FLYING HOSTESS               NICHOLAS HALL        2nd $12 MAMA’S CHOICE                 CHAD SCHOFIELD 3rd $10 Commanding Jewel brought her form to Moonee Valley and was to good for her rivals here. Her effort was good without being great and she looks like she will continue to improve and appreciate getting out over more ground. Flying Hostess did well and worked home hard to the line. She didn’t do too much work early but kicked well late as did Showmya Miss. Worth noting: Next start looks the big test for Commanding Jewel Race 2. 1200M Dr. Sheahan Plate OUR MISS JONES          CRAIG WILLIAMS         1st $5.50 DRAW FORWARD         DAMIEN OLIVER           2nd $3.50F CHIVVY                           DWAYNE DUNN            3rd $6 Show Up was driven hard out of the gates to lead and despite not winning her effort was god to hold on and end up where she did. Probably a better 1000m horse also. Barbies Bombshell box seated in the run and never got a crack at them. Chivvy was there the whole race without really threatening. Draw Forward was given a great ride by Ollie and just got nailed on the line. Winner Our Miss Jones was a maiden coming into the race and produced an excellent finish to win before injuring herself. Worth noting: Draw Forward and Chivvy look the ones to follow here. Race 3. 2040M Sportingbet Handicap STORM BURST                 LUKE NOLEN              1st $1.60F LUCKY ANGEL                 DWAYNE DUNN       2nd $9.50 VIHANNA VICTORY     CRAIG WILLIAMS  3rd $8 Storm Burst was sent around short but looked a pretty good thing. They walked through the first part of the race and for a little while she looked to be in trouble but Nolen kept her going and she ground out another solid win. Been up for a long time now but if she goes around again you just trust Moody. Lucky Angel did well to run seconds but not convinced she is a 2000m horse. Worth noting: Happy to back Storm Burst again and lay Lucky Angel in a genuine 2000m race. Race 4. 2500M Chandler Macleod Handicap AFRICAN HEAT               MICHAEL WALKER    1st $5 SHINY BUTTONS             GLEN BOSS                     2nd $4.60F YOU THINK SO                LUKE NOLEN                3rd $5.50 Wasn’t a great deal in this as they were approaching the line until Walker angled through the inside on African Heat who let down with a big kick and blew them away. It was a great performance and although he is no champion it’s always good to see a horse finish like that. You Think So and Crafty Cruiser both did well and had to work too hard early, thought their efforts to finish 3rd/4th was good. Shiny Buttons just missed out and he has been in good form Worth noting: Always hard following with great confidence out of these race but You Think So looks ready next run. Race 5. 1200M Essendon Nissan McKenzie Stakes RUSAMBO                     VLAD DURIC                   1st $6 DOMINANT                   NICHOLAS HALL         2nd $7.50 ADJUSTER                     JASON MASKIELL       3rd $51 Maury pinged to the front and the speed was on early. General Peekay was a very good run I thought. He also worked pretty hard early and through the middle and did quite well to end up fourth. He needs a bone dry track to show his absolute best. Rusambo had the race set up for him with the hot speed and he did well to finish off how he did. Worth noting: You can follow most of these, especially down in class. Race 6. 1000M Printhouse Carlyon Stakes BROKEN                            NICHOLAS HALL           1st $14 UMGETON                        CRAIG NEWITT              2nd $21 UNANIMOUSLY            STEVEN ARNOLD          3rd $5 Broken won here after the race was taken away from Unanimously after he shifted out and made contact with Umgeton. He is a good honest horse Broken and always gets sent around at a decent type of price. He loves 1000m and the Valley. Unanimously is going really well, deserved to get the race taken but stiff all the same. Was wide the start prior. Umgeton was a great return and is another suited by Moonee Valley. Worth noting: Follow Umgeton, looks to be in for a good campaign and will be suited at Moonee Valley and Caulfield. Race 7. 1519M SAJ Catercare Group Handicap EXCLUDED                   CRAIG WILLIAMS             1st $3.10F PHILDA                          ADAM MCCABE                  2nd $4.40 SEA GALLEON             NICHOLAS HALL              3rd $31 The market nailed this race down to two runners and they ended up fighting the race out. Philda knocked off December Draw in this race last year and he just missed out here. Excluded was given a gem of a ride by Craig Williams. He settled slightly better than midfield and was asked to go approaching the turn. He responded, picked his was through and finished off well. Thought Sea Galleon did very well working into third for a stayer who is looking for more ground. Worth noting: Looks a big track horse Excluded and interesting to see how far he goes. Race 8. 1200M Aquanas Foods Handicap SEA LORD                    THOMAS SADLER                    1st $18 LIVIGNO                       CHRIS SYMONS                      2nd $5F TOKUGAWA                 STEVEN KING                         3rd $5.50 Sea Lord was resuming here and was taken straight to the front by Thomas Sadler and that is where he stayed. It was a great return to racing for him. Livigno did nothing wrong he just wasn’t good enough. He had a great run and looked like he was going to run past the winner but couldn’t. Tokugawa is flying and was excellent from the back, appeals as a horse that may be suited away from Moonee Valley on a big track. Morant can be forgiven, it was a pretty good effort with 59kg from barrier 1. Worth noting: Should be a good form race, some will go onto better and some the same and some down in grade. Look out for any at mid week level. ——————————————————– Warwick Farm horses to follow by Todd Burmester Due to some technical issues Todd was unable to access the Warwick Farm race replays. However, he has listed four horses to kep an eye on below: Title: Beaten by a pretty good horse yesterday, and can win at this level Toydini: Came from a clear last, and will improve from this. Secret Admirer: Top quality Mare, set for another successful campaign Dear Demi: Might be a little bit under rated by most
