The playoffs are fast approaching and the seedings are far from settled. Three teams fighting for their playoff spots feature in today’s NBA betting preview.
Los Angeles Lakers @ Detroit Pistons - 10am
The Lakers shouldn’t be winning games for the rest of the season. LeBron is on a minutes restriction, while Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram are done for the season.
The teams they are trotting out are subpar and are being set up to lose so they can try to retain their own draft pick.
Away from home with the lack of experience and against a team in playoff contention, this one could be ugly.
Detroit have been whacked two straight games. I said last time they would bounce back, and they proceeded to embarrass me. This time they bounce back.
Blake Griffin does not take losing well, with the day off Blake would have said something to his team mates to make sure this isn’t a 3rd straight embarrassment. Losing to the Lakers by a big margin would be a massive dent in the confidence of the Pistons
I’m taking the line of Detroit -3.5 points at $1.84 with BetEasy. A relatively low winning margin that doubles the odds instead of going Head to Head.
Milwaukee Bucks @ Miami Heat - 11am
The Milwaukee Bucks have the best conference record of any team by a long way, currently 34-8 at 80% against rivals in the East.
No injury concerns here for the Bucks as they make small adjustments to their rotations as they prepare for playoffs. As usual, Giannis will be a big problem for the Miami Heat.
The Heat are starting to get on a roll now, winning 4 of their last 5 against some tough opposition.
Whiteside coming off the bench has been a masterstroke for Erik Spoelstra, averaging 11 points and 11 rebounds, as well as 1.5 blocks, in his 20 minutes on court.
This has made the bench unit much more effective for the Heat, and the spacing for the first unit much better.
Just a note, Miami is under .500 winning percentage at home this season.
The Heat have been good defensively so it may make it hard for Milwaukee to beat the spread in this one, so I’m sticking with Milwaukee head to head at $1.49 with BetEasy.
New York Knicks @ San Antonio Spurs - 11:30am
It’s not often you read anything with the hope of winning about the New York Knicks.
At the moment they’re trying to incorporate Dennis Smith Jr. and DeAndre Jordan into their offense after acquiring them from Dallas.
Both of these guys are good players and can be valuable contributors for the Knicks yet.
The San Antonio Spurs are very tough to beat when they play at home.
Winning 6 in a row, the Spurs are making their timely playoff run. It’s certainly become customary over the years.
LaMarcus Aldridge is averaging phenomenal numbers for his age, putting up 29 points and 12 rebounds per contest over the last 2 weeks. The Knicks will have their hands full with him.
I’m taking the New York Knicks to cover the spread, purely based on getting the big start.
At +13.5 with BetEasy, there’s room for manoeuvring for the Knicks, and at $1.88 it provides good value too.
- Detroit -3.5 – $1.84
- Milwaukee to win – $1.49
- NY Knicks +13.5 – $1.88
