Manly v Warriors: NRL Round 13

Manly head into this match missing their two best players in Daly Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic. They also played horribly last weekend and there are question marks over Dylan Walker’s fitness.

But they do welcome back Taupau, Saab and Lawton, so they are deserved favourite against a Warriors team that played terribly against Knights last weekend. The kicking game of Johnson and Harris-Tavita was absolutely horrible and elementary errors continue to cost the Warriors any chance of staging a mid-season revival.

The continued absence of Fonua-Blake and Curran is ruining their forward pack, while Lodge’s abrupt mid-season departure continues to baffle me (why is he being paid and not playing for the Warriors in their remaining few games in Australia!?). The line the club gave was that they wanted to develop their younger players, so what did they do… they went and signed 32-year-old Dunaimis Lui, who had been battling away for Redcliffe.

The wheels are falling off and I cannot see Brown given a shot at coaching this club in 2023. I thought, based on some of the talent he had brought to the club, that he had turned things around but the Warriors are a shambles and too many players are going backwards in the current environment. They need to get back to New Zealand as soon as possible and focus on rebuilding their identity and culture as a club.

The one thing that gives the Warriors some hope in this one is the return of Egan at 9, who had been playing great before his injury, while the return of Sironen should bolster their defence.

Manly are also a bit of a mess at the moment, so the Warriors are not without hope if Walsh and Johnson can combine and they cut out silly errors, but not enough value in this game for me.

Predicted score: Manly v Warriors

Manly 22
Warriors 16
