Panthers v Souths: NRL Round 4

Panthers welcome back Cleary and considering they are three from three, at home they will be hard to back against here. Their last game was impressive in that they won well despite missing a ton of talent. But without Barnett getting sent off, it is hard to know how that game would have played out over the final 50 minutes.

Although there are plenty of positive signs for the Panthers, statistically they have not been as dominant so far this year in some key areas. They are seventh for tackle breaks and without guys like To’o, Martin and Leota this weekend, there is a chance that Souths fancy their chances of winning this around the middle.

I also think the Panthers’ form might be a little exaggerated by the quality of opponents they have played. Manly are in horrible touch, as are the Dragons based on last week’s form and as discussed, the Knights were matching them until Barnett was sent off.

In contrast to this, Souths easily beat the Roosters last weekend and came within a whisker of beating the Storm in Melbourne the week earlier, so I think Souths come into this one a little more battle hardened.

If Walker recaptures his 2021 form, Souths are huge chance of an upset here.

I think the Panthers will get the win, but I like Souths at the plus for a small bet.
