Backing a $100 winner is about as good as it gets in the punting world, and there were plenty of happy members after doing just that.
It headlines the action from the second weekend in August.
At The Track
- Cloud Cover ($101/$26) came from the skies to fly home and get the chocolates on the line in a photo at Scone
- Humboldt ($2.30 place) was also in the frame to finish 3rd and make it a double collect for members
- Cloak ($2.05) did as a short-price favourite should on Saturday
- Charge ($2.50 place) finished as the runner-up at Rosehill later in the day
Overall it was a strong weekend for members as they walked away with $1,300 profit to continue what has been a red-hot winter with over $10,000 profit in less than three months.
Barby’s Bets members endured another strip-out on Saturday, but it’s tough going when 50% of the suggested bets end up in the steward’s report.
Both runners were solid in the market prior to jump as well, with Nacar $12 into $8 and Rowdy Richard $10 into $7 before bad luck struck again.
Thankfully it was a chop-out for the weekend after Rustydustysunshine ($3.20) got the job done on Sunday.
More profits in Sydney with NSW Winners members aboard Harper’s Choice ($5.70) as it produced a tough win.
Another $400 profit for the weekend takes total profit to the brink of $10,000 in just under a year.
- The Stateman ($7) was a good winner after a slow start to the day
- Theanswermyfriend ($7.50) defied the drift to make it a small winning day
Key Bets members managed to limit the damage from a dirty Saturday with a winning day on Sunday thanks to Bon Rocket ($4.40) taking out the first at Sunshine Coast.
At The Footy
After a strong past month or so it was a frustrating weekend in the AFL:
AFL Tips members went winless from two bets as Port Adelaide (-17.5) succumbed to injuries in the last quarter and Melbourne (-21.5) continued to struggle against top 8 sides.
A profit of $4,500 on the season and a collect on Carlton ($6) to have the most losses only a fortnight away still has the membership in great shape heading into finals.
There was no damage done on Friday and Saturday for AFL Specials with two chop-outs, but a poor Sunday meant a rare losing weekend.
Profit dipped just below $10,000 for the season momentarily but it will inevitably crash back through that barrier based on form this season so far.
Despite little damage being done to the NRL Tips kitty over the weekend, it was a horror show for members’ Futures bets.
Firstly the Broncos (to make the top four and win the premiership) surrendered a dominant 12-point lead in the second half to their lowly Queensland rivals in Townsville. While it seems the Broncos will make the finals, the top four is slipping away after two poor defeats in a row.
Then, to make matters worse, the once-mighty Dragons were punished 40-4 against bottom-feeders Parramatta to slip out of the top four for the first time this season.
Not only does that put a dent in their top four and premiership chances, leading point-scorer choice Gareth Widdop dislocated his shoulder and will be out until at least the finals series, ending his chances despite leading the count for all-but one round (this round) so far this season.
It’s a cruel game sometimes, but onwards and upwards we go.
