Matt’s Preview: Australia v Pakistan ODI series

Test series over, Australia and Pakistan now get into a best of five ODI series. Our cricket guru Matt shares his thoughts and best bets.

Shorn of their most important player, Sarfraz Ahmed, Pakistan should be lambs to the slaughter in this series against Australia.

The only slight concern is how many players Australia will rest when the series is settled, but they will be miles too good and should win 5-0.  A far better Pakistan side than this were whitewashed in this format the last time they came here, showing how hard Australia  are to beat in home conditions.

I just can’t tip a top wicket taker for Australia, because it’s impossible to guess who will play how many games. Starc won’t play more than 3 and Hazlewood is already rested from the first game. I have no idea how Pakistan intend to get Smith out and there is a solid chance he plays all the games. He is as confident a selection as you can have with all the uncertainty around.

Series tips:
Australia to win 5-0, Crownbet 3u
Australia to win 4-1, Bet365 1.5u
Smith top Australia series batsman, various 2u

The first game is in Brisbane today and Australia obviously win.  They’re much better in all three facets of the game and should come out comfortable victors.  Tipping shorties isn’t much fun, but they win so it’ll have to do.

In more interesting markets, I’m happy to back almost anyone to get runs in the Aus lineup on what will very likely be a feather bed. I’ll stick with the skipper and vice skipper though.

Game 1 tips:
Australia to win, exchanges 3u (you can wait to try and get some better value in play if you must, but it is a mis-match)
Warner o36.5 1u, to score 50 1u, Ladbrokes
Smith o35.5 1.5u, to score 50 1.5u, Will Hill
Century scored, Will Hill / Bet365 2u

Travis Head is opening, so if you can get on at $ 9 – $10 is good value, but that will be cut any minute.
