By guest writer Todd Burmester Saturday see’s the return of one of the countries best gallopers in Whobegotyou. Realistically, class will probably get him home in this race. I’m not sure it’s a benefit race to him however, as there possibly are a few things that don’t justify the very short odds he will start. Firstly, his first up record. It is worth noting that Whobegotyou has only been successful once in five first up attempts. On each other occasion he has run second. To qualify that however, he has not been racing against any slouches, and it’s fair to sa he doesn’t face the stiffest competition here. The other thing about Whobegotyou is that he has run second more times in his life than he has won. At seven starts at 1400m he is yet to win, and in ten starts at Caulfield, he has only two victories. Certainly make up your own mind about him tomorrow, but he won’t be carrying my money. Lights of Heaven, the just turned 4 year old Mare will be the other one in the market and gets a nice weight advantage here. The thing with her however is that she has to bring 3 year old form from last season, to open company. Many of them find the rise too difficult. In her favour, is the raw ability she showed last campaign, going from a massive Maiden win at Cranbourne to a Group 1 win in Adelaide, within four starts. That’s impressive. In this race tomorrow however I’m going to seek that elusive value we are always looking for as a punter and have an each way ticket on Time Matters, who is around a 20/1 chance for the race. His lead up form to this has been extremely consistent and he has not had the best of luck behind two handy gallopers lately in the shape of Mr Griswold and Mr Make Believe. With six of his nine career wins coming at Caulfield, and four career wins being over 1400m, I think its fair to say that this is his pet track and distance. In the negative column, he is 9 years of age, and he doesn’t have the proven class of the other two, however race fitness and the price on offer, I feel are good enough reason to have a ticket each way. Good Luck
